Waterloo? Obama Video Address: July 18, 2009

Republican Senator from South Carolina, Jim DeMint said concerning health care reform, “If we’re able to stop Obama on this, it will be his Waterloo. It will break him.”

And there you have it my friends. One declarative sentence that defines what is wrong with the Republican party and what is wrong with Washington right now. Whether you believe Obama or not, his answer to DeMint that health care reform is “not about me”, is exactly the right answer. It’s also not about politics. It’s about meeting a moral imperative in a way that does not ruin us economically.

Now the question remains, will health care reform bankrupt America and lead to rationing of care? The fact is that the legislation is still being crafted. The folks who say the sky is falling are premature. Concern about long term effects of legislation are not limited to Republicans. They are shared by moderate Democrats. I personally find it unlikely that for all his persuasive charm, Obama will bull-doze through a bill that hurts America, as the Obama-is-Satan contingent would have you believe.

Are there problems with Obama’s video address this week? Well there is one striking error that Obama keeps repeating. He may be doing it because he doesn’t think the average American can deal with any complexity in the argument. When Obama says you will not have to change your plan or your doctor, he is ignoring the fact that under the current system, without any reform, your employer decides your health care insurance options. No one under current policy can guarantee from one year to the next that their health care insurance or their in-plan doctors won’t change. Nothing in the legislation being debated right now changes that. The question of whether the presence of a public plan will induce most employers to drop other options remains a valid one.

Despite this, I still say to all the Chicken-Little’s in the country that the sky is not falling. We will end up with health care reform that only goes a small fraction toward the ideal. I suspect everyone will not be covered. Yet I also expect the legislation will stop insurance companies’ current immoral practices. Once again, the Republicans offer little by way of solutions and by the rhetoric of some of their more loose-lipped Senators, show their true intentions: to abandon what is best for this country simply to prove they can stop Obama.

I ask my conservative friends, is this really what you sent your representatives to Washington to do?

And now the President of the United States of America:

Respectfully,
Rutherford

  1. Rutherford, why do we need to rush through legislation on a bill that is so important?

This bill will effect America for many decades. Why the time constraints? Are laws no longer worth scrutiny and debate? Isn’t that why we elect representatives?

Do you want your representation voting on bills they haven’t scrutinized and debated? Is a rubber stamp Congress OK with you?

Don’t let Obama distract you with Jim DeMint. This is what we should really be talking about.

  2. “The fact is that the legislation is still being crafted.”

    You’ve hit it right here.

It is still being crafted, yet Obama wants it on his desk before Congress breaks—in 2 weeks.

Finish crafting, read, debate, and revise a 1000+-page bill in 2 weeks.

Funny how we need to be patient for all of Obama’s stuff to kick in, but we have to pass them right now.

  3. “He may be doing it because he doesn’t think the average American can deal with any complexity in the argument.”

Yep, he thinks Americans are stupid.

“I suspect everyone will not be covered.”

    Illegals wiil but Congress wont

“Once again, the Republicans offer little by way of solutions”

BS, I posted 2 of their plans but you ignored it like usual

“and by the rhetoric of some of their more loose-lipped Senators, show their true intentions: to abandon what is best for this country simply to prove they can stop Obama.”

Whose says what thuggy is doing is best for our country?

“I ask my conservative friends, is this really what you sent your representatives to Washington to do?”

Stop thuggy and his fascists? Hell yes I do

  4. “Obama will bull-doze through a bill that hurts America, as the Obama-is-Satan contingent would have you believe.”

Really? Like the so called Stimulus bill that now he says wasnt meant to stimulate

  5. Video: Let them eat painkillers

This Marie Antoinette moment took place a month ago, and Karl mentioned it in a post at the time, but the video is definitely worth a revisit. Jane Sturm told Barack Obama that her mother had needed a pacemaker implanted at 100 years of age, but got denied by the first doctor she saw. She found a doctor who would do the surgery, impressed by her spirit. When Sturm asked Obama if her mother would have received a pacemaker under ObamaCare … well, watch for yourself:

Jane Sturm told the story of her nearly 100-year-old mother, who was originally denied a pacemaker because of her age. She eventually got one, but only after seeking out another doctor.

“Outside the medical criteria,” Sturm asked, “is there a consideration that can be given for a certain spirit … and quality of life?”

“I don’t think that we can make judgments based on peoples’ spirit,” Obama said. … “Maybe you’re better off not having the surgery, but taking painkillers.“

This shows why politicians shouldn’t decide on medical treatments. Dr. Helen Smith, who herself had the same kind of heart problems at a very young age, explains why Obama’s course of treatment would have led to, er, cost savings:

Some heart arrhythmias are deadly, and a doctor telling a patient to take a pain killer to treat V-tach or V-fib should be guilty of malpractice. …

Heart arrhythmias can be absolutely terrifying leading to panic attacks and/or fatigue so crippling that one cannot get off the couch. A pain killer is not going to help. But maybe that’s the idea. Obama is so determined to get his health care plan passed–no matter what the consequences– that he doesn’t care how or if people suffer, especially older people.

Is Obama heartless, mean or just plain ignorant? His response to Jane Sturm leaves me wondering which.

No more heartlesss, mean, or ignorant than the bureaucrats who will eventually make these decisions under ObamaCare, using their pocket Comparative Effectiveness ChartsTM.

    http://hotair.com/archives/2009/07/21/video-let-them-eat-painkillers/

So which is it Dodger? Heartless, mean or plain ignorant? Since thuggy is the smartest man alive, we can scratch out ignorant.

  6. “Obama will bull-doze through a bill that hurts America”

I feel TARP hurt America. Now, R may disagree.
But can “R” say it wasn’t “bull-dozed”? I will ask you point blank. Rutherford, was TARP unfairly rushed or bull-dozed?

Can “R” say Obama blatantly broke his campaign promise on transparency by rushing this stuff?

Rutherford, answer Red Pill’s questions. Why the rush? Why would rushing such an important and far reaching bill be good for America?

You know why. But, you don’t have the guts to call out your idol. After all, what could be less transparent then rushing a massive bill forever changing the economic, medical and political landscape of America so that people do not learn it’s true contents. Kind of Satan like if you ask me.

  7. What’s worse Rutherford?

A party of no ideas as you attest (which is lib baloney, by the way), or the party of bad ideas?

I’ll take the no ideas solution every time and let the private sector handle all but the macro oversight.

Health care will eventually be rationed. We are denying the inevitable.

  8. “Yet I also expect the legislation will stop insurance companies’ current immoral practices.”

LOL Too funny. Dodger expects the same people that are intentionally bankrupting the country to stop “immoral” practices. Did you read the legislation Dodger because I know your Senators and Congressmen wont.

“Despite this, I still say to all the Chicken-Little’s in the country that the sky is not falling.”

Did you cal thuggy a “Chicken Little” when you bulldozed the “Stimulus” bill that no one read?

I must confess, its fun calling out Dodger’s hypocrisy.

  9. A telling episode recounted by Senate Finance ranking member Charles Grassley reveals the Obama administration might be more worried than they are letting on that a Republican senator’s comparison of the healthcare overhaul to Waterloo might be dangerously close to the truth.

Grassley said he spoke with a Democratic House member last week who shared Obama’s bleak reaction during a private meeting to reports that some factions of House Democrats were lining up to stall or even take down the overhaul unless leaders made major changes.

“Let’s just lay everything on the table,” Grassley said. “A Democrat congressman last week told me after a conversation with the president that the president had trouble in the House of Representatives, and it wasn’t going to pass if there weren’t some changes made … and the president says, ‘You’re going to destroy my presidency.’ ”

You ever notice? It’s all about thuggy and whats best for HIM, not America. Does this sound like a leader Dodger? Come on, defend Thuggy, let’s hear what you have to say for once. 🙂

  10. BS, I posted 2 of their plans but you ignored it like usual

Elric, finding two of your posts in the vast onslaught is quite daunting. Either repost them here or point me to the blog item and comment number where you posted them. I don’t click all your darn links but I do read most of your comments that accompany them and for the life of me, I don’t recall your posting any Republican alternative on health care other than “Obama’s won’t work”. That’s not an alternative. That’s nay-saying.

  11. Red Pill, etal.
I am NOT in favor of a rush. I see no reason why the August deadline is sacrosanct. With that said, if no reform gets passed this year, it probably won’t be passed at all. Do you think it is a mere coincidence that no health care reform has been passed since Hillary Clinton’s failed attempt in the 90’s? There are too many people with too much to lose if the status quo changes. Obama is using his “popularity” as the fuel to push this thing through. The fact that “this thing” is flawed is costing Obama poll numbers as we speak.

Mistake number 1: Obama should have had a team of advisers draft a legislative template for the House to work with. Instead he left it up to the House which seems incapable of planning cost efficient change. I can only hope that Obama is true to his word that if the legislation that is drafted does NOT demonstrate savings, then he will veto it.

By the way, Elric, quoting Grassley doesn’t go far with me. This is the same loose-lipped loon who suggested the CEO’s of GM and Chrysler should commit suicide.

  12. Two ideas to implement immediately that will cut down the cost of health care (one of them care of PR expert Donny Deutsch):

    1. Outlaw friggin cigarettes! They kill thousands every year and sicken countless others. A major burden on our health care system.

    2. Outlaw pharma advertisements on TV and other media. Ever since prescription drugs started getting hawked on TV like they were friggin’ Hostess Twinkies, folks run to their doctors for the latest fix. I miss the old days when doctors knew what drugs to give you and there was no drug-hype.

  13. Outlaw cigarettes. You can’t be serious. Why not outlaw being a fat ass. Or institute government mandatory work out sessions. My God, you are dangerous.

  14. “Mistake number 1: Obama should have had a team of advisers draft a legislative template for the House to work with. Instead he left it up to the House which seems incapable of planning cost efficient change. I can only hope that Obama is true to his word that if the legislation that is drafted does NOT demonstrate savings, then he will veto it.”

So let’s just do away with that pesky separation of powers that is standing in the way of Obama’s progress.

This bill involves $$$. Spending bills originate in the House. When the Executive is giving the House templates to work from, then that bill isn’t originating in the House, is it?

Getting rid of pharma ads would be a good thing. So would getting rid of BS law suits that drive malpractice insurance up.

But those things don’t require a government health plan to be done.

  15. Looks like Obama is both dragging his feet on sanctions while Clinton seems to be hinting that we are going to let Iran nuke up.

  16. Outlaw cigarettes? You think that is why health care is so expensive? 😆

“R”, let’s be honest here. The problem isn’t the cost as much as we are living longer while prolonging the inevitable death, thereby vastly increasing the costs of end-of-life issues.

I don’t have good answers about rationing health care, but it would seem to me if we were really interested in lowering costs, as ironic (and moronic) as it sounds, we ought to be encouraging everyone to “smoke them if you got them!” 😉

  17. In all fairness Rutherford has a good point in #14. Of course the fact that the D plan will essentially euthanize the COPD patients is to be noted. Besides if we outlaw ciggies BHO can’t sneak the occasional butt and SCHIP would be unfunded.
On a completely unrelated note allow me to go off on awild selfish tangent of sorts.
R back in the day when Chen was still alive I dreamed the tag thing up. We (CZ and I) had thought trying to make the WPBA more interactive would be an interesting thing. I’ve tried to have bursts and crossposts with definite participation which has been interesting and in turn Red Pill tried to get people going. Well now I’m wondering if you’d be personally interested in an interactive post kind of thing. I find you uniquely qualified to offer a position on the recent Graves /Harvard/CPD incident. It’s ticking away but seriously would you be willing to offer up something.
In advance I’ll say no hard feelings. Far be it for me to request people expend valuable time but I was thinking it could prove interesting.
    Thanks A – in2thefray

  18. “Outlaw cigarettes. You can’t be serious. Why not outlaw being a fat ass. Or institute government mandatory work out sessions. My God, you are dangerous.”

You are learning. His answer to everything is fascism.

  19. “By the way, Elric, quoting Grassley doesn’t go far with me. This is the same loose-lipped loon who suggested the CEO’s of GM and Chrysler should commit suicide.”

Of course not. Anything critical of thuggy you dismiss. Good drone.

  20. “Looks like Obama is both dragging his feet on sanctions while Clinton seems to be hinting that we are going to let Iran nuke up.”

Of course, Obama will always side with tyranny and oppose anything good for the country.

  21. Yet another poll shows Obama in trouble

Barack Obama will hold another prime-time press conference tonight, and it’s not difficult to see why. One poll after another has shown confidence in Obama eroding, especially on the economy and even on health care, the two topics Obama will address in his presser. The latest polling comes from the Associated Press, and it adds to the growing consensus among pollsters that Obama has slipped badly over the last month:

    http://hotair.com/archives/2009/07/22/yet-another-poll-shows-obama-in-trouble/

I dont think any president, even Dhimmi Carter sunk so low so quick, and wait til the economy really tanks. Better jump ship while you can Dodger.

  22. Wow: Dozens of Democrats lining up against ObamaCare over … abortion?

The Standard counts no fewer than 53 Dems on record as having problems with the House bill, but so lopsided is the blue majority that the GOP would need to peel off 40 of them to block it. That’s not going to happen on Obama’s signature policy initiative. Assuming their objections are economic in nature, Pelosi will simply shower the fencesitters with legislative goodies until enough of them are willing to choke down ObamaCare.

But what if their objections are based on something more profound than economics?

    http://hotair.com/archives/2009/07/22/wow-dozens-of-democrats-lining-up-against-obamacare-over-abortion/

How does it feel that the wheels are falling off the Thuggy bus Dodger? I must admit that I thought it would taken longer but I thought thuggy would have been more patient in ramming his marxist policies too. I guess he isnt as smart as I even gave him credit for. But then he sealed his Harvard records.

  23. Elric go white water rafting? His lap top is doomed.

LOL priceless! I’m just picturing Elric blockquoting from WeaselZippers as the waves wash over him. Too much! 😀

  24. 53 Dems have a problem with the bill?

Good! That means perhaps the legislative process is working. I think Elric forgot how our country works. The President does not legislate. You should keep your eye on what Congress is doing. If there is bipartisan concern about the bill, that is a good thing … means the damn thing will get changed and hopefully improved.

By the way, question for all of you folks … do any of you even think health care reform is even needed or is it a big waste of time?

  25. Pelosi says she has the votes. Guys like Rutherford are already spouting off about fascist governmental policies. Can you imagine 5 years down the line? 50? Will somebody throw the Orwellian sledge hammer at this shit already?

I will repeat what I have already said:

Mark my words: This bill funds abortions and Dead Rabbit will no longer stand up for the pledge of allegiance. I just don’t think I could do it. How could I pledge allegiance to my nation when they kill babies in the womb by the hundreds of thousands? I’m sure my money, to some extent, already indirectly kills babies. But wholesale murder via the government, financed by the Rabbit? Its one thing for other people to commit this heinous act, but now the blood of the unborn will be on my hands. Dumpsters full of little fingers and toes paid for by the Rabbit.

I will go as far as to say that anyone who truly is pro-life should not pay their taxes, should this bill pass and include abortion. We should go Henry David Thoreau on their asses by the millions. Non-violent resistance, but resistance none-the-less.

Tex used to say that sooner or later we might go into a territory where many Americans stand up in open rebellion. While he was vague to what that entailed, I did dismiss him. I was ignorant to how far things would unravel. Thus, I take it back.

Rutherford, you are about to have a fight on your hands that you and your ilk will not forget.

A new generation walking in the footsteps of the abolitionist Jon Brown will have every right to battle this government.
Could you blame them? Rutherford, could you blame people for standing up in what they believe in?

Rutherford, should I, a free American, be forced to pay for the abortion of a baby in the womb?

This is no longer Roe vs. Wade. Nor is it a theoretical argument about when life starts. This isn’t a dispute about a constitutionally accepted role of the government, such as the defense of this nation through war. This isn’t even over my property. It’s not about the sad reality that your family is demanding that the government force my family to share our medical benefits with you.

This is about the very core of my conscious and an unprecedented intrusion of government where it has no right to be.

  26. Health care reform is needed. A government-run health care program is not.

    AMEN!

“R”, I just watched your “brilliant” President finally exposed as the bumbling federal idiot he always was. Looks like the wheels on the slacker bus are finally coming of – this clown with his superficial, teleprompting communication skills is wearing thin.

I’m going to stomp some lib testicles when this is through…I’m going to start with General Chen, and work my way up to finish you off come 2010. Told you this was 1993 and 1977 all over again. 😆

  27. of/off

I’ve started drinking again! Met with a doctor friend of mine for dinner tonight and could hardly drive home after two porters.

    What a lightweight I’ve become.

  28. We have the best medical in the world. When I was not insured I was always taken care of. Just got billed for it, that’s all. I paid them back.

Medical insurance means something to you? Fucking buy it. Take Rutherford, for example. What a joke. Rutherford has not one excuse in the world not to be insured right now. He decided to buy a half a million dollar mansion instead! He then has the nerve to come crawling to the Rabbit. Tugging on my boot begging that my future son share his medical care with him. When I kick his sobbing ass to the side, he growls, and says he will create a tyranny that forces me to share.

Buy it. Or find a job that offers it.

Lawyers are bar none the reason why the shit is sky rocketing. Make it harder to sue. That’s it.

  29. Porter….good call. Ever have a good porter from the cask? The way beer was served before CO2? Goes dangerously down like sweet tea.

  30. “LOL priceless! I’m just picturing Elric blockquoting from WeaselZippers as the waves wash over him. Too much! :-D”

How shocking. Thats the only thing you can comment on? I thought you were one of thuggy’s most devoted soldiers. Come on, show me where Im wrong. 🙂

  31. ““R”, I just watched your “brilliant” President finally exposed as the bumbling federal idiot he always was. Looks like the wheels on the slacker bus are finally coming of – this clown with his superficial, teleprompting communication skills is wearing thin.”

Really? I heard it was worse than that LOL

  32. Tigers blew another one in the 9th. Not in a good mood.

Working on a roofing job tomorrow with a crew of firemen. I haven’t worked a job all summer and I know how these guys hump. After that, I’m going to help someone move. Tomorrow is going to hurt. Time for Rabbit to pay.

Big Nanny Democrats want to ration health care for everyone in America – except those who break our immigration laws. Last week, the House Ways and Means Committee defeated an amendment that would have prevented illegal aliens from using the so-called “public health insurance option.” Every Democrat on the panel voted against the measure.

    http://michellemalkin.com/2009/07/22/obamacare-for-illegal-aliens/

Well we know demomarxists care more about non citizens than citizens

  34. Of course not. Anything critical of thuggy you dismiss. Good drone.

Sorry Elric, but now I’m really starting to doubt your intelligence. Or maybe you’re the real dodger. I guess you think the CEO’s of Chrysler and GM should have committed suicide eh?

  35. “Outlaw cigarettes. You can’t be serious. Why not outlaw being a fat ass. Or institute government mandatory work out sessions. My God, you are dangerous.”

You are learning. His answer to everything is fascism.

Mmmmm, lemme see if I understand this:
Heroin — addictive, dangerous and illegal
Cocaine — addictive, dangerous and illegal
Meth — addictive, dangerous and illegal
Cigarettes — addictive, dangerous and …. oh yeah I’m a fascist.

  36. “Sorry Elric, but now I’m really starting to doubt your intelligence. Or maybe you’re the real dodger. I guess you think the CEO’s of Chrysler and GM should have committed suicide eh?”

Whats that have to do with thuggy worried about his presidency being ruined?

  37. I find you uniquely qualified to offer a position on the recent Graves /Harvard/CPD incident.

Alfie, I assume here you’re referring to Gates (Henry Louis Gates Jr., Professor of African American Studies at Harvard). My position on this should be quite predictable to any of my readers but if you and Red Pill are going to cover it, I’d be glad to coordinate coverage much as we did with the Obama Cairo Speech.

I did not know that you were instrumental in the creation of the famous “WordPress Political Bloggers Alliance” ping back tag. I joined the Alliance fairly late in the game soon after I discovered the Chamber. My hat’s off to you for being part of what was truly a great idea, even if its leader has gone on a sabbatical of unknown duration.

  38. So let’s just do away with that pesky separation of powers that is standing in the way of Obama’s progress.

Red Pill, funny that you mention this. In Obama’s press conference tonight he made reference to a group of advisers who have been advising Congress, not the President for years now. Only trouble is Congress ignores them. If I understand correctly, new legislation will force Congress to vote on this team’s recommendations in the future. No problem with separation of powers. The advisory group deals directly with Congress, not the President.

  39. Health care will eventually be rationed. We are denying the inevitable.

Who are we kidding here? Health care is already rationed. Justified procedures are denied, doctors don’t even do what is right for the patient anymore, they do what the insurance companies will pay for. Tex, the current system is a mess. Don’t pretend that we are inserting dysfunction into a working system.

  40. Chen was joke. He didn’t have the balls or the care to play hard ball. Blogging a campaign is for sophomores. It was a “fantasy politics league” to him. Blogging the real world, the Presidency, is a whole new ball game. Props to Rutherford for that, at least.

That being said, the day draws near where Rutherford will have to call his beloved out or become irrelevant. We can only read hollow defense for so long.

  41. and the government is the answer because they have such a good track record.

You want to lower costs, how about stop paying for health care for illegal aliens? You ok with that?

  42. Is Obama heartless, mean or just plain ignorant? His response to Jane Sturm leaves me wondering which.

You’re the expert on morals Elric, you tell me if you had the decision making power, with limited resources, who would get a heart transplant, a 100 year old woman or a 25 year old woman? Make the easy choice Elric with that big loving wise heart of yours!

  43. “You’re the expert on morals Elric, you tell me if you had the decision making power, with limited resources, who would get a heart transplant, a 100 year old woman or a 25 year old woman? Make the easy choice Elric with that big loving wise heart of yours!”

Look at that. Dodger dodging another question.

  44. Glad you are back. You are the only other voice of reason here besides myself. — Elric to Tex

Tex, sorry to rain on your compliment dude, but if that ain’t damning by faint praise, I don’t know what is. Bwahahahahahahahahaha 😀

  45. “R”, I just watched your “brilliant” President finally exposed as the bumbling federal idiot he always was

It’s amazing how two different people can watch the same thing and see two different things. Tonight Obama said:
    1. We can’t cover everybody because we’re not going to mandate
    2. Health insurance reform will not contribute to the deficit
    3. Part of improving the system is working smarter — like having three doctors look at the same damn test instead of ordering three of the same damn tests.

The only way you can walk away from this press conference scared or upset is to say the man is an outright liar. I don’t think he is.

  46. “The only way you can walk away from this press conference scared or upset is to say the man is an outright liar.”

Why yes he is, now you are learning.

  47. Buy it. Or find a job that offers it.

Rabbit, don’t be a simplistic ass. I’ve got coverage right now because my wife’s work offers it. I assure you that a cheaper house would not do much good with my medical bills which are substantially greater than yours.

Your argument completely befuddles me. Health insurance as it is today involves YOU paying premiums that contribute to my care and the care of lots of other people. You don’t get sick and you get your premium back Rabbit? Don’t think so.

May I also remind you that you are also paying for the indigent who go to the ER and can’t pay. Or would you like truly poor people (not me) thrown out into the street to die?

One of the fundamental economic principles of this country is pooled money to help the greater number of people. We see it in our taxes and we see it in group policies. It’s nothing new.

So you’re telling me you want it all overhauled so Rabbit only pays for what Rabbit uses. Do I understand you correctly?

  48. Really? I heard it was worse than that LOL

This says it all! Elric can find the time to read his trash web sites but he can’t take the time to watch the President, hear what he has to say, and then make an intelligent critique.

  49. “May I also remind you that you are also paying for the indigent who go to the ER and can’t pay.”

Yeak like illegal aliens sucking up the cost. How about we send them home so we can lower health costs? You down with that?

  50. “This says it all! Elric can find the time to read his trash web sites but he can’t take the time to watch the President, hear what he has to say, and then make an intelligent critique.”

Why bother? Once he says “Let me be perfectly clear” I know he is lying and tune him out.

And how are they trash? You never once disputed anything, just dodge dodge dodge.

  51. PRINCETON, NJ — Fueled by the sentiments of Republicans and independents, a new USA Today/Gallup poll shows that 59% of Americans say President Obama’s proposals to address the major problems facing the country call for too much government spending, and 52% say Obama’s proposals call for too much expansion of government power.

It is not surprising to find that Republicans are close to unanimity in their views on these issues, with 90% saying Obama’s proposals involve too much spending and 83% saying they involve too much expansion of government power.

Of more concern to the Obama administration, perhaps, is the finding that clear majorities of 66% and 60% of independents, respectively, say Obama’s proposals involve too much spending and too much government expansion.

    http://www.weaselzippers.net/blog/2009/07/uh-oh-gallup-poll-finds-66-of-independents-think-obama-is-spending-too-much-expanding-government-too.html#comments

The wheels of the thuggy bus are coming off.

  52. Look at that. Dodger dodging another question.

Elric, has it occurred to you that when you refuse to answer a simple question put to you that you are the dodger?

My question to you (based on your “let em eat painkillers” comment) was an answer, not a dodge. The answer is that making health care choices with limited resources presents moral dilemmas. Ones that even you wouldn’t dare touch, hence your dodge.

  53. “Elric, has it occurred to you that when you refuse to answer a simple question put to you that you are the dodger?”

I know who liberals debate, answer a question with a question and expect that answer to be answered. I dont play that game.

  54. Yeak like illegal aliens sucking up the cost. How about we send them home so we can lower health costs? You down with that?

What’s your plan to round them up and get them out, Lou Dobbs? 😉

  55. “What’s your plan to round them up and get them out, Lou Dobbs? ;-)”

Nope. Cut off health services and major fines for employers that hire them and they will go home by themselves. Really simple well except for a liberal.

So now do you support getting rid of the illegals to lower health costs or rather pull the plug on grandma?

  56. I dont play that game.

Why do I suddenly have this image of Elric strutting around in his basement singing:
I’m bad, I’m bad, you know it!
And the whole world has to answer my knock
Cos I’ll tell you once again. Who’s bad?!!
    😀

  57. “Yes, believe it or not I’d prefer Grandma getting medical care over illegal aliens.”

Finally some sanity. Thats how I would tackle the problem. Not overhaul a system and force everyone on it. Reduce health costs and free up jobs for legal Americans. Pretty simple huh?

  58. Rutherford: “…but if you and Red Pill are going to cover it…”

I’m not covering that one. I don’t know near enough about it.

  59. The only way you can walk away from this press conference scared or upset is to say the man is an outright liar. I don’t think he is.

You forgot to add thug, narcissist, and fascist (the first one was for my friend Elric).

Yes, I think Obama is a liar as he as already proven with his socialist policies. His campaign promises, his promises of transparency, and his empty rhetoric a sign of a compulsive, self-serving liar.

But I could have told you that in November – I have always thought Obama a lightweight blowhard and a sham – from his sealed records to lack of conviction while pandering for votes, he personally makes me puke to even look at.

As far as rationing health care, only in the most extreme of circumstances. For every instance you can show me of someone being rejected treatment, I can show you a hundred elective surgeries approved.

  60. I hear (no, I didn’t watch that crap, either) that Obama said he didn’t know all of the details about that arrest, but he was still able to render judgement on it.

Sounds kind of like the health care plan he’s pushing.

  61. R…how come nobody is talking about abortion and health care reform?

And that wasn’t the time for Obama to bring up a possibly racist cop and some jaded black intellectual. Chump change. Imagine being that cop. Screwed up. Had a bad day, and the president is calling you out on prime time tv!!!!

  62. Since the President of the United States now feels the need to pre-judge campus squabbles during a prime time television event on health care because his homie had a beef, I guess Rabbit can too.

    1. Racial profiling is a reality. Depending on the neighborhood, I see it all the time. It must suck beyond all belief to be harassed that way. There is a suburb on the west side here called Livonia. Rutherford would get pulled over in this suburb eventually for no reason. It is a sad reality.

    2. Black people commit so many damn crimes, it must suck to be a cop and expected never to racial profile. One slip up, and you are either vilified or killed. Livonia is separated by only a few highway exits from murderous black neighborhoods that are so crime ridden Rutherford would much rather take his chances in Livonia (or for that matter Iraq). I won’t bore everyone again with the stats proving black people to be much more prone to be murderers.

    3. Black intellectuals are the biggest bunch assholes I have ever met. Rabbit guarantees the event went this way: Cops (eventually including at least one black cop, they never get mentioned in these things) show up and find intellectual black guy trying to break into mansion. Intellectual black guy secretly enjoys the attention and creates a conflict because it sums up every dissertation he has ever written. Intellectual black dude cops a major “tude” at the same moment white cop’s not in the mood. Rabbit rhymed on that one. Next thing we know, the fricking President of the United States is going after the cop.

    4. Social profiling happens all the time too. The Rabbit used to drive a rusty van into rich neighborhoods to roof. I’ve been spread eagle on the side of my van numerous times for no reason. One time I was kept for an hour explaining why I had dozens of slips with addresses on them. (Former roof jobs) It was pretty humiliating.

Obama needs to grow up. He’s not representing just the south side anymore. He represents that cop and the black intellectual.

  63. Rabbit, my good man, what have I missed here? Obama did not say, “hey let’s detour from health care reform and talk about how my homie, Skip, got screwed over by the man.” He was asked a very specific question by Chicago reporter Lynn Sweet. He answered it, admitting that he didn’t know all the facts, wasn’t actually at the scene but based on his knowledge of the individual he found it disturbing. He said (and I paraphrase) “Skip Gates is a friend of mine so admittedly I’m a bit biased on this one.” Dude gave an honest answer and your undies are in a knot.

Where’s your indignation at the reporter for asking a question that has NOTHING to do with the President and nothing to do with the main reason he was there last night?

  64. Black intellectuals are the biggest bunch assholes I have ever met.

Oh, that’s rich. Rabbit, you can’t stand intellectuals to begin with but you know what … it’s major self-hate dude, major denial. From much of what I’ve seen you write on this blog, despite your “roofer swagger”, you are an intellectual.

Get some self love dude. Embrace your inner nerd! 🙂

  65. http://www.myfoxboston.com/dpp/news/local/cop_who_arrested_gates_not_sorry_072209

Props to the cop for sticking to his guns. I would argue there is a bit of “social profiling” going on with Obama’s unfounded accusation.

I guess there is no way some member of the intelligentsia could be wrong and no way some cop making 40 g’s a year could be right.

Obama screwed up. There will be a time for him to weigh in on some racial stuff. This event wasn’t it. At the very least, nobody has any clarity on what really went down. And for him to be personally tied to the professor and then sound off on this shit as President is very irresponsible on his part.

What a dumb, dumb move by Obama. He’s not Reverend Sharpton he’s the president of the United States, for God’s sake. I’m actually kind of embarrassed for Obama on this one. He seems so “city council” right now.

The Union aint backing down on this one. Usually they quickly back off and say they need to investigate. This tells me that Professor Smarty Pants might have been acting like a total jerk. Hell, maybe both of them were total jerks, I don’t know.

The sad thing is, when we need some leadership on race, it looks like Obama has already blew his wad. At least if he keeps getting in the middle of petty crap like this. I thought he’d be bigger then this, to be honest.

  66. “Get some self love dude. Embrace your inner nerd!”

LOL…yeah your probably right on a couple levels there….And don’t get me wrong….I don’t dislike black intellectuals more then white ones. I can’t even stand when Red Pill pulls his smarty pants card, and I usually see him as the most razor sharp dude on here.

  67. He answered it, admitting that he didn’t know all the facts, wasn’t actually at the scene but based on his knowledge of the individual he found it disturbing. He said (and I paraphrase) “Skip Gates is a friend of mine so admittedly I’m a bit biased on this one.”-Rutherford

Yeah…I’d be cool with that if that’s all he said. Why did he feel the need to start calling the cop “stupid”? It’s just not fair to the cop. R, for God’s sake, he is the President of the United States. I can’t believe you can’t see the error in judgment here.

“Where’s your indignation at the reporter for asking a question that has NOTHING to do with the President and nothing to do with the main reason he was there last night?”-Rutherford

Yeah. That is a good point. The question was crap. But does that mean Obama turn into a politically inept noob?

It just is terribly unfair for the President of the United States to take a stand against that cop without the facts clearly lined out.

You can’t see that? It’s an irresponsible use of his power.

Again. Tell the president to get out of city politics. It’s embarrassing and a waist of political clout that we will one day need.

As for my roofing swagger, your so right. I was happy today was canceled. What a soft pussy I’ve become, because I need the money.

  68. “He answered it, admitting that he didn’t know all the facts, wasn’t actually at the scene but based on his knowledge of the individual he found it disturbing.”

Hmmmm…found it disturbing and said the cops acted stupidly but didnt have all the facts and wasnt there. Sounds like typical thuggy

  69. New York City, N.Y., Jul 23, 2009 (CNA)- The Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) has filed a lawsuit on behalf of a Catholic nurse who was forced to participate in an abortion, despite voicing her moral objections.

Catherina Cenzon-DeCarlo, a nurse at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, was instructed to assist in a late second-trimester abortion for a woman 22 weeks into her pregnancy. The hospital had known of the nurse’s religious objections to abortion since she was hired in 2004.

Cenzon-DeCarlo reminded her supervisors of her religious objections, but was told that if she did not participate, she would be charged with “insubordination and patient abandonment,” which could result in disciplinary action and the possible loss of her job and nursing license.

  70. Smart Power in Action: North Korea Says Hillary is Dumb and Looks Like a “Primary Schoolgirl”…..

NORTH Korea has hit back at comments by US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, describing her in an unusually personal attack as not intelligent and a “funny lady”.

A foreign ministry spokesman quoted by the communist state’s official news agency accused Clinton of making “a spate of vulgar remarks unbecoming for her position everywhere she went since she was sworn in”.

“We cannot but regard Mrs Clinton as a funny lady as she likes to utter such rhetoric, unaware of the elementary etiquette in the international community,” the spokesman said.

“Sometimes she looks like a primary schoolgirl and sometimes a pensioner going shopping.”

    Rest here>>>

    http://www.weaselzippers.net/blog/2009/07/smart-power-in-action-north-korea-says-hillary-is-dumb-and-looks-like-a-primary-schoolgirl.html#comments

I thought our enemies were going to respect us now. Dodger?

  71. Speaking of HIllary…

Anybody see her getting off the jet the other day in that orange suit pant outfit? The ultimate pear shaped woman.

If somebody had a black magic marker and drawn some razor teeth in black on her fat apple cheeks, we could have put a candle in her mouth and used her for Halloween.

    She’s looking bad anymore…

  72. Elric, I learned long ago that there are two Rutherfords. Read some of his blogs and then read the comment section. He is torn between what he thinks he “should” defend and his own logic. I’ve seen him contradict himself numerous times. He may act like it’s not the case, but emotion can also hijack Rutherford’s brain just as bad as it can the Rabbit. Some times he just doesn’t like telling the truth but then eventually will.

By the way, “R”. I heard your radio show and saw your pic the other day. You were rambling on about Jacko’s death. You have a weird voice. Kind of a mix between an old Jewish lady and the Godfather.. In some ways, having a distinct radio voice is a good thing. And you certainly have a face made for radio.(rabbit drum roll) Was your wedding reception “Beauty and the Beast” themed? (rabbit drum roll). Or did you take your wife to the same hypnotist the Rabbit took his old lady too? (rabbit drum roll). Back in the day, you must have been both the last pick at doge ball and prom. (rabbit drum roll).

Seriously, want to improve ratings? Lets turn your show into the Rutherford and the Rabbit Morning Zoo. Who knows? Maybe we would get the time slot on tv right before the infomercial with those two midget twins with the secret to getting rich quick via real estate.

Rabbit, the conservative, bombastic meat head. Rutherford, the liberal, minority twerp.

    Let’s get rich baby!

  73. Is there an edit option on these blogs? waist/waste. It seems I’m powerless over these mistakes. Even a preview would help immensely.

  74. DR,

I can imagine why he is torn. Ideology vrs logic. Sometimes he will make some sense but then goes back drinking the thuggy kool aid. I think he will wake up sooner or later. He doesnt defend much of what I point out and that is a good sign. If he could, he would defend what his “president” is doing. If we keep pounding away, he will eventually crack.

  75. “Anybody see her getting off the jet the other day in that orange suit pant outfit? The ultimate pear shaped woman.”

I always pictured Hillery in her younger days falling into the “cute face with a saggy body” category of chick. Could be wrong though.

  76. “Im just waiting for her to resign. If she wants to run against Thuggy in 2012, she needs to abandon this disaster soon.”-Elric

That would be crazy, but epic. A premeditated back stab. Hillery resigns as Secretary of State and runs against the very incumbent that both defeated her in the primary and appointed her. Talk about an act of revenge with political shrewdness capable of blushing Machiavelli or Bismarck. Checkmate, says the The Clinton Political Machine.

  77. Rabbit, time for me to get out the violin again. Before my tracheotomy back in 2006, I was told by many I had a great radio voice (and yes, a face for radio too LOL). When I got out of 5 weeks of respiratory rehab I sounded more like the Godfather than I do now. One interesting thing about an audio show (I love to say radio but let’s be honest ,,, it’s an unpaid internet gig) is you have to have good breath control. I’m still working on it. LOL … I guess a cross between an old Jewish lady and the Godfather pretty much sums it up. 🙂

I’ve toyed with trying to get a co-host but just haven’t gotten around to advertising for one, You’d be surprised how hard it is to even carry 15 minutes on your own. Hell, I started at 30 mins in the beginning and had to stretch so bad it was pathetic. The 15 flies by when I have a lot of topics I want to hit. You probably listened to the episode where I tried to cut Peter King a new ass*ole.

Anyway, thanks for listening and for the “fan mail”.

  78. DR,

Not that crazy, she did get the popular voted in the primaries. And not really a back stab. Thuggy appointed her so he could get her out of the way. She wasnt too smart taking the job but I do think she will resign and will run against him in 2012.

Epic will be Hillary vrs Sarah Palin.

  79. While Elric and DR plot Clinton’s Machiavellian future, consider this scenario posited by Chris Matthews:

In 2012, Obama behind the scenes, promises Joe Biden the Secretary of State job and makes Hillary his running mate. This sets her up to run for Pres in 2016. Now THAT’s entertainment!

  80. Elric,

Our buddy Rutherford will never change. You could horsewhip him and he’d still parrot the lib mantra gained from MSNBC. He’s got his whole life invested in his politics and his ideology – it’s his “religion”.

I give old Rutherford kudos for being far smarter than the average blowhard ‘intellectual’ on the left. And he is one of the few I enjoy conversing with – mainly because he is one of the few from the left that has a sense of humor and doesn’t attempt to censor word and thought.

But like many of the PHDs I’ve met through medical school, you can be a brilliant student, an expert in a particular field, and still be a lost cause. 😮

  81. Did any of you actually WATCH the friggin press conference? Obama handled the Gates question not only with restraint but with humor. Said he’d be shot trying to jimmy his way back into the White House. Damn you guys can’t even enjoy when Obama has some fun with a question. Get the stick out of your ass for goodness sake.

And he called the cop “stupid”. Oh my God … I’ve never heard such condemnation in my life! Sorry gentlemen but on the face of it, arresting a man for breaking into his own home AFTER he has proven that it is indeed his home is …. STUPID.

Now leave me alone while I write my next blog post about … Gates. 😀

  82. Rutherford,

A tracheotomy? You sound pretty good Bud – most tracheotomy patients I’ve spoken to struggle to carry on a conversation, much less broadcast a radio show.

    Tip of the hat…

  83. Tex,

Thats why I think there is hope for him. He actually believes in free speech and does have a sense of humor. He wouldnt be the first lib thats getting buyers remorse with Thuggy getting elected. I think we will know by the fall if Dodger will see the light or not. The economy will get much worse and the Middle East will explode when Israel hits Iran.

  84. Sorry Elric … I forget that some of my readers only watch Fox. Chris Matthews hosts Hardball on MSNBC. And yes, I know there is strong chance that your question was simply you being a wise ass but hell, I answered it anyway.

  85. Elric,

I doubt it. Rutherford’s a hardcore idealist. Obama was his ideal candidate. His own sense of pride is lived through the Obama candidacy.

Like the proverbial hardcore sports fan who lives his life through the football team’s record and can never admit there are better teams around, or possibly his team of choice is highly overrated, “R” will never be able to admit Obama is weak outside the scripted soundbite.

  86. “Sorry Elric … I forget that some of my readers only watch Fox. Chris Matthews hosts Hardball on MSNBC. And yes, I know there is strong chance that your question was simply you being a wise ass but hell, I answered it anyway.”

Ohhhh you mean Tingles. Ok I know who you are talking about. Ohh and I dont have cable so I dont watch any cable news network.

  87. Tip of the hat…

Thanks Tex. I didn’t last one week through the first grade before being put in the corner for talking too much. After my respiratory crisis in 2006, my biggest fear was I wouldn’t be able to talk. Would have been like death to me. Fortunately, as you know from your medical studies, as long as you don’t actually have a laryngectomy, there’s a good chance you’ll talk reasonably well. Obviously during the day, the tube’s cuff is deflated and I cap the end of it. So the only real problem is that the thing does obstruct the trachea a bit and slow down breath flow. (I only inflate the cuff when I get on a respirator at night.)

Sorry to my other readers for the medical aside. Probably should have addressed Tex privately but what the hell, we’re all friends here (even Elric) LOL

  88. Elric, I agree about Rutherford.

But you were called out on something yourself. Now, you may frame my “button” question as worded sophomorically. Or dismiss the messenger, hating the Rabbit.

Fair enough. But you very well understand the true meaning of the question.

What the hell do you propose we do about Islamo-fascism?
No doubt, a tough question and one I haven’t finished thinking about. But at least I have the cerebral sand to admit as such.

You were asked a question, sir: Not only a fair one, but one of the most imperative geopolitical questions in the post Cold War world era.

For someone to be so steeped in the issue, to never provide any hint of a solution or even a plan of action is nonsensical to me. Either that or just lazy.

We’re not asking for an essay here. Just a few hints, we’ll even take links!

It’s also a matter that would give us insight into where you are coming from ethically.

Now, I suppose you could say your “personal views” don’t matter. Once again, fair enough. But to declare this to be so means, that by the very definition, YOU are the drone. After all, you would be freely admitting that you are merely repeating the opinions/reports of others. And while you might be a drone supporting people I often agree with, a drone you remain.

  89. Obama presser: What was the point?
posted at 8:47 am on July 23, 2009 by Ed Morrissey
    Share on Facebook | printer-friendly

When a president calls a prime-time press conference, it traditionally means that the White House has some new strategy, message, or policy creation that they want to reveal with a big flourish. For at least the second time in a row, Barack Obama demanded valuable prime-time real estate and the nation’s attention in order to repeat the same lines he’s used for the last two months on health care. Obama failed to present a single new idea, proposal, or even argument that had not already been floated from Obama himself and the White House in the full-court press over the last 10 days in Obama’s media appearances.

Well, except for the new notion of predatory tonsillectomies. Let me tell you a story about tonsillectomies. My son could not get one for over four years because the HMO that covered him didn’t want to spend the money. Only when we transferred him to my insurance could we get a pediatrician who would do it (who happened to be his original pediatrician) — and who pronounced the other doctors as idiots for letting them go that long. Fortunately, I could choose insurance plans and doctors. The incentives are set up against tonsillectomies, not favoring them, mainly because a few experts decided a few decades ago that they were generally unnecessary.

    http://hotair.com/archives/2009/07/23/obama-presser-what-was-the-point/

  90. Ohh and I dont have cable so I dont watch any cable news network.

This is exactly what I feared. The man has isolated himself in a world of JihadWatch and WeaselZippers. Damn, even a couple of minutes with Chris Wallace would clean some of the cobwebs out of your head dude!

And yes … Chris is “Mr. Tingles”. LOL But let’s not forget National Review’s Rich Lowry is Mr. “sit up straight in my chair” while watching Sarah. 🙂

  91. “What the hell do you propose we do about Islamo-fascism?
No doubt, a tough question and one I haven’t finished thinking about. But at least I have the cerebral sand to admit as such.”

The first step is to recognize that “islamo-fascism” is rooted in islam itself. If one cant do that, the problem will never be solved. Because you cant solve a problem if you dont recognize the root cause.

  92. “This is exactly what I feared. The man has isolated himself in a world of JihadWatch and WeaselZippers.”

Errrr no. There is an amazing thing called the interenet that leads you to multiple news sources. And get ready for this, WZ and JW often link to other news outlets. Shocker huh?

  93. Rutherford, I thought you might have had a tracheotomy. I like the voice the way it is now. I’m telling you, it sounds cool. Particularly for a radio format.

Think of your voice as an eye patch or switchblade scar on the face: bad ass.

  94. “R”,

Serious question here – no analogies, no slaps, just simple question.

Do think Joe Biden is as ignorant as I do? I may think Obama a weak President; I obviously don’t believe he is dumb.

Why would Obama nominate a man for his V.P. as dumb as Joe Biden? I mean, I honestly think the clown is a borderline moron.

  95. “The first step is to recognize that “islamo-fascism” is rooted in Islam itself. If one can’t do that, the problem will never be solved. Because you cant solve a problem if you dont recognize the root cause.”-Elric

I knew you were going to say that. I agree, as do many others (here included), particularity conservatives. And surely that is a worthy defense for your onslaught of links.

But that’s it? That was defense of Elric, not a defense of my country.

  96. “You’d be surprised how hard it is to even carry 15 minutes on your own”-R

Actually, you might have forgotten what my day job is.

  97. “But that’s it? That was defense of Elric, not a defense of my country.”

Im talking about the government recognizing that. Because when they do, they can then fight it without being PC. That can start dismantling groups like CAIR, MSA and ISNA without the fear of being “islamophobes”.

  98. “So you’re telling me you want it all overhauled so Rabbit only pays for what Rabbit uses. Do I understand you correctly?”

That would be great. The government should have taken some of the stimulus money and opened a fed backed bank guaranteeing a low interest loan for anyone without insurance who needs to see the doc. If you don’t pay, they take it out of your check like the IRS. Illegal aliens will not be covered (except, unfortunately, the children). If you die/become too disabled to work, the government takes the hit. Maybe the interest rate would cover part of the loss.Throw a little sin tax at the fund, and maybe it would work for a 3 generations or so. Plus, with solid science, maybe the Government could find out that certain freebies, probably in preventive medicine, would actually be profitable to the government.. The upshot would be, free mammograms or something. I’m talking out of my ass a little here….but that doesn’t sound bad. Take some power from sue happy lawyers and let the free market deal with insurance.

If the health care “crisis” is such a “crisis”, why didn’t the last round of “crisis” money go towards it? That was a ton of money, they could have financed this proposal and have plenty left over.. Oh, I forgot. Canned hams were deemed more important.

  99. “That can start dismantling groups like CAIR, MSA and ISNA without the fear of being “islamophobes”.

Agreed. And the movement oversees? what else?

  100. “The first step is to recognize that “islamo-fascism” is rooted in Islam itself.”

Why about the millions of peaceful Muslims that, for whatever reason, don’t buy into jihadsm. Are you implying we outlaw Islam?

  101. “Agreed. And the movement oversees? what else?”

Movements over seas? Europe is on their own, they made a deal with the Devil, let them rot. Another great move would be drill and mine our own fuel, move towards a viable alternative energy source and tell the Sauds and OPEC to screw off. Limit or ban immigration from certain nations. Particularity Pakistan, Iran, Saudi and the UK.

  102. “Why about the millions of peaceful Muslims that, for whatever reason, don’t buy into jihadsm. Are you implying we outlaw Islam?”

Define a “peaceful” muslim. Is that a muslim that doesnt blow up but would push for Sharia law. One that sues a company because they arent allowed to wear their hijab at work? One that uses intimidation to limit or censor free speech because someone is critical of islam? How do you know if what they say is true given the islamic practice of taqiyya and kitman?

  103. For the love of Allah, DR and Elric, please take this Islam thing back over to the religion post and have a ball. This thread has been amazingly anti-Muslim free and I’d like to keep it that way.

One comment though: ban immigration from the UK? You can’t be serious! I don’t even agree with Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, etc, but I can at least see where you’re coming from. If you want to include the UK, then how bout any other country that has even one Muslim in it? And while we’re at it, we need to deport all Muslims from this country right? Elric sometimes you don’t just border on nutjob, you take up full residency there!

(Since I threw down the gauntlet, I’ll allow ONE response from you on this in your defense, then I’m shutting down any more Muslim stuff on this thread. Move it to the religion one please.)

  104. the Los Angeles Times acquired a statement from White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel stating that Secretary Clinton was on ‘thin ice.’

While I take this account with a grain of salt (there’s a whole cottage industry dependent on Obama and Clinton hating each other), I must admit I had doubts the love affair would last for long.

  105. “This thread has been amazingly anti-Muslim free and I’d like to keep it that way.”

And what exactly is “anti-muslim” Dodger? Like I asked you before. Feel free to answer me over there. 🙂

“One comment though: ban immigration from the UK? You can’t be serious! I don’t even agree with Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, etc, but I can at least see where you’re coming from.’

If you were keeping up with whats going on in the UK, you would understand.

“And while we’re at it, we need to deport all Muslims from this country right? Elric sometimes you don’t just border on nutjob, you take up full residency there!”

Putting words in my mouth again Dodger? Maybe we should just apply dhimmi status to muslims. Would you be ok with that?

Feel free to answer over there……if you dare. 🙂

  106. “While I take this account with a grain of salt (there’s a whole cottage industry dependent on Obama and Clinton hating each other), I must admit I had doubts the love affair would last for long.”

The LA Times were the ones that refused to release the tape with Obama and his Pali terrorist supporting friend Khalidi. I doubt they are Clintonites.

Most of the media’s focus from last night’s press conference has been directed towards Barack Obama’s response to Lynn Sweet’s question about Henry Gates’ arrest, but they missed a key exchange — and a major walkback on tax policy for Barack Obama. Obama has insisted that middle-class Americans would not see “any form of tax increase, not your income tax, not your payroll tax, not your capital gains taxes, not any of your taxes,” both during the campaign and while in office. David Axelrod started backing away from that pledge last month, when CBO scoring on ObamaCare turned really ugly, but until last night Obama had not retreated in the least. Buried in the interminable answer given to Ben Feller of the AP on how Obama planned to pay for health-care reform was this nugget, which I’ve paired with Obama’s pledge from a year ago:

    http://hotair.com/archives/2009/07/23/video-obama-officially-retreats-on-zero-tax-increases-for-middle-class/

Roll Call reports on a fracas between Democrats and Republicans in the House over the right of Representatives to communicate with their constituents. Republicans want to send this chart, created by Rep. Kevin Brady (R-TX) to represent the flowchart of health services under ObamaCare, in order to show how much more complicated such care will become. Democrats filed a complaint with the franking committee and blocked it (via Drudge Report):

  109. Obama officially retreats

LOL. Obama didn’t officially retreat on anything. The sentence was picked apart and dissected to the point of silliness.

As for the other contrasting video, isn’t it convenient that “my plan” isn’t put in context in the video. Was he talking health care in that video or something else? Would have been nice to see more of the contrasting video for credibility’s sake.

  110. Obama: On second thought, it’s totally okay for Congress not to pass ObamaCare by August; Update: Lowest rated press conference yet

Well, no, champ, it’s not okay. It’s a huge, potentially crippling setback, and a personal embarrassment for him that his big health-care pep talk last night — which even his fans in the punditocracy are panning — was greeted this morning by Harry Reid deciding to pull the plug before the “deadline.” No problem for the O, though; watch as he segues effortlessly into the new reality. Too bad he didn’t falsely claim that he never expected to have a bill by August, though. I’m at the point where I kind of look forward to those Orwellian “but let me be clear, I have consistently said” lies when he has to reverse himself on something.

  111. Video: The best part of ObamaCare? Lines!

Do politicians think before speaking? No, but then, what fun would that be? Rep. Carol Shea-Porter gives us yet another laughter point when she exclaims that a nationalized health-care system that makes everyone wait in lengthy lines would be preferable to a system that provides responsiveness for 87% of the nation:

Thats liberalism for you. Make everyone equally miserable.

  112. Actually I take that back a bit. The elites in Washington wont have to be equally miserable since they wont be under this Health Care scam.
